Celebrate over 100 years of the women’s suffrage movement and meet May Billinghurst – one of those who fought for it.

MAY is a one-woman show based on the life of ‘the cripple suffragette’ May Billinghurst, whose story has been widely ignored by the history books. Using original letters and extracts between May Billinghurst, her family, and other suffragettes including Emmeline Pankhurst, MAY is an exploration of the constricts facing women, the oppression of LGBTQI+ individuals and the restricted lives of disabled people, in the claustrophobic Edwardian era.

Through May’s story, Phoebe Kemp – writer, actor and activist – encourages us to reflect, and really ask ourselves, “How far have we come in 100 years in the fight for equality?”
