Dorchester Youth Theatre
Welcome to the home of Dorchester Youth Theatre
Our aim is simple, inclusive theatre space for any young person looking to get involved with theatre on a local level. We have aimed to achieve a space where our members feel safe and supported and free to express themselves through the medium of Drama.
Dorchester Youth Theatre (DYT) meets weekly in term time. We run 5 sessions with over 70 young people taking part aged from 6 to 19 years. There are no auditions and all abilities are welcome. The sessions are aimed at young people who have a passion for theatre and are interested in performing and developing their creativity. Also through the use of Drama and role play we help to develop children’s social and emotional well-being, improving their confidence and self-esteem.
Come make friends, get involved with local theatre and make some amazing memories along the way.
Primary Group
Year groups 2 and 3
Session time: Mondays 3.30 – 4.30
Fees: £70 per term (£50 second sibling)
Our sessions are games based to encourage communication and teamwork. There is no pressure of public performances in the Primary group as we believe these youngest members need to build their confidence and feel happy working with each other before they experience a performance.
Junior Group
Year groups 4 and 5
Session time: Mondays 4.30 – 5.30
Fees: £70 per term (£50 second sibling)
These sessions build on the confidence and creativity of the young people. Each week we use theatre games, improvisation and script work to work towards a performance in the summer term.
Young Company
Year groups 6 – 8
Session time: Mondays 5.30-7pm
Fees: £75 per term (£55 second sibling)
Our weekly sessions are based on improvisation, theatre games, devising and script work. We work towards a performance in the summer term.
Senior Company
Year groups 9 – 11
Session time: Mondays 7-9pm
Fees: £90 per term
Our senior company sessions include script work, games, devising, improvisation techniques and stage craft. We tackle more challenging subjects pushing the boundaries of theatre. Seniors work towards a performance in the spring term.
DYT Performance Company
Young people age 16+
Session time: Thursdays 7-9pm
Fees: £90 per term
Our performance company will be focussing on group performance as well as individual work on monologues and duologues.
